What One Can Do...
MDG resources for
children, youth and young adults
The world is connected like never before ... and children, youth and young adults have grown up with that connectivity and have a natural facility for global relationships that other generations have to learn. Because of this, the Millennial Generation is uniquely suited to LEAD this movement of global reconciliation.
If you're a child, youth or young adult and reading this, let your imagination run wild! Use the resources we have ... send us the resources we don't that you're using ... and if there's something you wish was here but wasn't, let us know and we'll try to find it. And be sure and join our Facebook group and get connected to other young Episcopalians around the Church who are connecting and collabroating for the Millennium Development Goals.
If you're a youth leader or "older folk" and reading this, let your imagination run wild, too ... but remember that the best way to get young people on fire about the MDGs is to let their creativity carry the day. Give them the information and then let their creativity decide where to go next. Give them control over a budgetary line item. Let them preach and do educational presentations in your congregation. Their energy and passion will be contagious!
Got ideas? Got questions? Want to do something beyond your local church and get involved nationally? Here are our area initative coordiators:
Children, Youth and the MDGs -- Tracey Herzer -- TraceyHerzer@aol.com
Tracey is the president of the National Association for Episcopal Christian Education Directors and executive director of LeaderResources, a senior trainer for Journey to Adulthood (J2A), Godly Play trainer and one of the best education/spiritual formation minds & hearts in the Church. And despite all that on her plate, in 2007, she stepped up and volunteered to be EGR's point person for creating and gathering curricula for children and youth to engage the MDGs. Interested in helping her out? Got ideas for youth/children and the MDGs to share? Looking for ideas? Tracey's the one for you!
Millennials and the MDGs -- Elizabeth Henry -- elihenry@gmail.com
Nobody needs to "get young people involved in the MDGs and global relationships" ... they're already there. EGR believes the church's role is not to tell this generation what to do, but to help them discern where God is calling them, embrace and value their creative energy, help equip them with the resources to make the vision God gives them happen ... and then enjoy the ride we all go on together! Elizabeth, a senior at Davidson College, is pulling together a leadership team of high school students , college students and young adults across the church that will figure out where the energy is and get moving with it. Give Elizabeth a shout to find out more or to get invovled!
